Social Media is media connecting with others and feeding off of them. examples are twitter, facebook, blogs, video blogs, magazines, etc.
writing on the web is different than writing traditionally by...
- there are no restrictions
- you can talk about whatever you want
- you can post what is right to you (meaning do not really have the facts but have backgroung knowledge).
- personally i really don't care about grammer when writing on the web.
for traditional writing you have to....
-get the actual facts of an event
- many restrictions
-no free opinion
- grammer/ sentence structure
example: during hurricane Hanna people were twitting exactly what was happening without having any restrictions or problems to communicate. a news paper couldnt provide that because at the time nobody had time to write paper, they would have to wait till it was safe again missing all the key information during the hurricane.
Now a days people don't care about if they get the paper or not. Twitter, Facebook, blogs, and text are the new source of imformation for people. lets face it, it's faster, funner, and more interesting. with peoples attention spans shrinking the paper is boring with too many words. with Twitter (and the others) people can feed off of each other and actually know what is happening and when it is happening.
ex. if i reveived a text telling me about some news thats also on the paper. i would read my text because it would be stright to the point without all the other bologna.
media is changeing by...
there are new devices that are being created for people to communicate without having to read the paper.pictures with color and fewer words are the best way to keep the audiences attention now a days.
